Geeks & Geek Culture
As a general rule, people value connection. I’m a believer that geek culture has largely developed as a result of that desire to connect and bond with others over shared interests and passions. If geekery is an important part of your identity, you deserve a therapist who is also a part of that community and can empathize with the nuances it brings to your life.
Geeks and nerds often find themselves connecting over more than fandom. Some research suggests that mental health struggles such as depression and anxiety are more prevalent in geek communities. Even with such shared experiences, there are many possible intersections with a geek identity, each creating a unique perspective and lived experience. Each facet of your identity will find acceptance at Zimmerman Relational Therapy.
With me, you’ll be able to benefit from a therapist who understands geek culture and what it means to be a part of such a community, even if my own geeky interests don’t overlap precisely with yours. I can relate to the excitement in your passions and what it means to draw inspiration and strength from the stories you love, whether told through games, novels, comics, or beyond.
